Dubai Marina Mall and Address Hotel
Addressing modernity
Completed in 2009, the Dubai Marina Mall is a waterfront development comprising a high-end retail podium, enticing office spaces and a luxurious hotel with serviced apartments, called Address Hotel. Located in the heart of New Dubai, an affluent residential neighbourhood, Dubai Marina development is representative of yet another step by the country towards modernising its cityscape.
Understanding this, the architectural expression is thus reflective of Dubai’s contemporary stride while remaining strongly rooted in its rich and colourful traditions and history. Texture and sand-like tones not only lend the tower prominent character, it also resembles the vernacular architecture of Dubai. The tectonic architecture of the hotel tower is articulated through balcony projection.
Smart vernacular façade
Matching form with functionality, our façade team proposed the use of modern materials. The curtain wall comprises high-performance glass that delicately balances visible light transmission and shading coefficient in order to optimise the thermal performance of the façade. The curtain wall frames are thermally-broken so as to further reduce the heat load on the building. The glazed panels are set deep within sand-coloured GFRC panels, which is reminiscent of the traditional Middle-Eastern architectural style. The large skylight over the atrium of the shopping centre has been carefully designed so as to offer unobstructed views onto adjacent buildings while preventing glare and excessive heat load on the building.
